Our Black Book: Horses You Must Follow From Moonee Valley 24/8

Our analyst has taken a look over the times & replays from last Saturday’s Moonee Valley meeting and has a list of four horses you must follow in the coming weeks.

EVAPORATE

Strong win from the three-year-old gelding when he stepped up to 1523m. Mick Dee backed him in by making a mid-race surge to go and sit outside the leader Trunk. He didn’t let him down as he proved too strong in the run home. His time for 1523m was .36 seconds slower than Rolls but he carried 59 kilos compared to his 53 kilos. A race like the Stutt Stakes is within his range.

PHOTOGRAPH

It was a character-building watch for anyone who was on this three-year-old filly as she should have won the Vale Black Caviar Plate. Stewards reported Photograph was held up from the 500m to the 300m. Then when Jamie Kah got her into the clear she dropped her right rein near the 50m mark. Kah told stewards she settled back further than she had intended to and although she was held up she said would have been better off being more positive early. Photograph’s last 200m of 11.64 seconds was the fourth fastest for the meeting.

SANS DOUTE

According to RV stewards she bounded in the air when the gates opened and that caused her to miss the start which cost her the race according to her jockey Mick Dee. It was a brilliant return to racing to finish third behind Mornington Glory in the Carlyon Stakes. She recorded the fastest last 400m of 22.76 and 200m of 11.43 seconds for the meeting. She’s capable of winning a big sprint over spring.

SUPARAZI

Super return from this under-rated versatile galloper who missed the start and was also held up before the turn. In the finish he went down to Extratwo who was given the ride of the day by Blake Shinn, and produced the second fastest last 200m. Suparazi also had to give Extratwo five kilos. He’s always a factor in anything he contests.
