Our Black Book: Horses You Must Follow From Flemington 30/3

Our analyst has reviewed the sectional times, ratings & replays from last Saturday’s Flemington meeting & has placed five horses you must follow in our black book below.

EL SOLEADO

He resumed from a freshen-up and dropped back to 1600 metres and with a bit of luck he could have won as he was held up from the 400 metres to the 300 metres. His jockey Craig Williams said El Soleado didn’t appreciate being between runners to the RV Stewards. He will be hard to beat in anything he contests.

WHAT YOU NEED

He may have suffered his first defeat in four starts but he didn’t lose any admirers with a first-up third in the ATA/Bob Hoysted Stakes as he held on well to finish third behind two in-form horses in Sans Doute and Najem Suhail in a quick time. The Price and Kent Junior Stable would have been thrilled with his return.

MARK TWAIN

An amazing effort to win the Roy Higgins from this Kiwi stayer. He recorded the second fastest last 200 metres of the day with 11.48 seconds which is an amazing effort over 2600 metres. He’s secured a spot in the 2024 Melbourne Cup and on that performance he’s going to be a leading chance.

EUPHORIC

He probably cost himself the race by being slowly away. He settled well back and finished strongly running the third fastest last 200 metres of the meeting with a time of 11.51 seconds. He handles wet tracks and he’ll be a horse who should graduate to open class handicaps.
