Our analyst has reviewed the sectional times, ratings & replays from last Saturday’s Flemington meeting & has placed five horses you must follow in our black book below.

REASONABLE POINT

Didn’t stretch out in the early stages at her debut but she finished in the manner which she had been trialling in the lead-up as she stretched out like a smart two-year-old filly to run on and grab second. She’s going to be better for the experience and has the makings of a stakes horse.

CIRCLE OF FIRE

Didn’t jump well at his Australian debut so settled well back along the fence. He didn’t get a lot of galloping room until late but he worked home nicely without being pushed too hard as he had fourth sewn up. He got win second-up over 2000 metres.

ETERNAL FLAME

It was a nightmare watch for supporters of her although they now know she can win at Group level. She was held up from the 500m to the 200m and then again at the 150m mark and went to the line without being extended. Somehow, she only got beaten 1.55 lengths. Next start over 1600 metres.

VERDAD

Another great run from this under-rated gelding to finish third behind the outstanding gallopers Riff Rocket and King Colorado. He wasn’t aided by being held up between the 450m and the 300m mark. There’s a nice race coming his way soon.

ESPIONA

Although she’s won seven races and $3 million her third placing in the Black Caviar is close to the best run of her career. She demonstrated again how much she loves the Flemington straight and she stretched out superbly over the closing stages. Her last 200m was 10.97 seconds which was the fastest for the meeting. The Newmarket looks a great race for her.

CARINI

Pleasing return to racing from this promising stayer to finish fourth behind Makram. His last 200 metres was the second fastest split in the race of 11.66 seconds and he had a tougher run than the winner Markram.
