Our Black Book: Horses You Must Follow From Caulfield 19/10

Our analyst has looked over the times & replays from Saturday’s Caulfield meeting and has found six horses that you must follow next start.

LOVELYCUT

Reece Goodwin would have been stoked with the effort of his three-year-old filly to run on from last to finish second behind another promising galloper in Lofty Strike. She settled last and finished off boldly running the seventh fastest last 200m for the day. She should be hard to beat at her next start against her own sex at Flemington.

KEENELAND

He went down as a $1.80 favourite but don’t sack him for the Victoria Derby. The race was run at a crawl which didn’t play into his hands. John Allen elected not to up the tempo before the turn and he was left a little flat footed early in the straight. He also didn’t want to cross to the fence which was a no-go zone. He rallied in the closing stages and went close to winning.

INEVITABLE TRUTH

John Sargent knows how to produce a VRC Oaks filly and he may have found another one with this filly. She finished strongly from last to finish fourth in the Ethereal Stakes. The daughter of Fastnet Rock is a powerful type and she looks on track to be a force at Flemington.

MATISSE

Gave away a big start in the Thousand Guineas Prelude and worked home nicely around the outside on a day which didn’t play at all to that style of racing. She was second-up and she should be ready to put her best foot forward at her next start at Flemington in the lead-up to the Thousand Guineas.

REY MAGNEIRO

He was a bit slow out and ended up in a slightly awkward position. Jye McNeil had to push out in the straight from being closer to the rails to the middle of the track and he surged late to just fail to grab Estriella. He produced the fastest last 200m of the day of 11.83 seconds. He was a winner at last year’s Flemington carnival and he can repeat that feat in a good race this year.

BUCKAROO

Things didn’t work out for him in the Caulfield Cup as he suffered some interference early and simply gave away too big a start. It’s normally the best form race for the Melbourne Cup and he’s the only horse you could select from this race as a winning chance at Flemington. His last 200m was .5 seconds faster than any other runner. The way he’s racing 3200m shouldn’t be a problem.

GLOBE

The Mick Price and Michael Kent Junior team would have been thrilled with his first-up fourth. If it wasn’t for Buffalo River taking him on a long way out for the lead he may even have prevailed. The stable said prior to the race he would take a lot of improvement out of the event.
