Opinion: When will the NBA just scrap the inseason tournament?

The NBA announced the schedule of the NBA Cup on Wednesday. The event begins on Halloween (10 days after the regular season starts) and ends on December 16, with the championship final once again being in Las Vegas.

I am one person who cannot stand the NBA Cup. Talking about a tournament that completely disrupts a professional sports league’s regular season, the NBA Cup should be on top of the list.

Does anyone remotely care that the Los Angeles Lakers won the 2023 NBA Cup or the Milwaukee Bucks won the 2024 NBA Cup? The answer is not at all. They shouldn’t care because the real champion from the NBA two seasons ago were the Boston Celtics and the real champion from the NBA this past season were the Oklahoma City Thunder. The fact the NBA even spent money on a trophy on the NBA Cup champions takes away from the prestige and glamour of winning basketball’s ultimate prize, the Larry O’Brien Trophy.

One needs to also know that the NBA Cup final means nothing in the grand scheme of things. It is not included in the standings and it is just a way for players to win more money. It interrupts from the regular season flow and disrupts the schedule.

As you can tell, the NBA Cup brings me zero excitement. I would rather see the sports networks of TSN and Sportsnet in Canada and NBC and ESPN in the United States be completely committed to showing World Cup alpine skiing, bobsled, luge, speed skating, biathlon, cross-country skiing, freestyle skiing, snowboarding, nordic combined, short track speed skating. skeleton, ski jumping, and ski mountaineering live and ignore this silly basketball tournament.
