Opinion: We have never seen the US been dominated like this
5 months ago - Sportingbase
Heading into the 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black, the United States looked like the best team on paper. I believed they should have been considered the favourites because they have seven players ranked in the top 10.
What we are seeing instead is a gigantic butt kicking. Europe has a commanding 11.5 to 4.5 lead. We have never seen the United States been hammered like this in men’s sport for a while. We did see England absolutely clobber the United States 69-7 in the Women’s Rugby World Cup in Sunderland, England a month ago.
The most shocking part of the American performance at the Ryder Cup is how terrible two of the most recognizable American golfers have been. Scottie Scheffler and Bryson DeChambeau have literally been non-existent. Scheffler has lost all four 0f his matches to date, and the only reason why DeChambeau helped the United States get a point is because his playing partner Cameron Young played well on Saturday morning in foursome play.

Europe entered the second day of competition with a 5.5 to 2.5 point lead, and extended their lead from three to seven points after winning six of eight matches.
The best European shot came in the foursome play as Spain’s Jon Rahm made a spectacular shot from the bunker on the eighth hole. It was the kind of shot that simply sunk the Americans, who were completely deflated thereafter.
In order for Europe to retain the Cup on Sunday, they simply do not need to do much. All they need is 2.5 points of a possible 12 points to retain golf’s team sport prize.
