Opinion: Should Anamoe Take On The World?

Champion galloper Anamoe deserves a tilt on the world stage after his Cox Plate victory and he’ll be more than competitive against the best the world can offer.

Godolphin’s Australian manager Vin Cox said they would look at Dubai and Europe next year and so they should.

Simply Anamoe is a star and has done things other horses haven’t been able to do.

Four Group Ones wins from four starts in spring which took his tally to seven Group Ones, the most of any Godolphin owned horse in history is testimony to this.

He was unlucky in a Golden Slipper and two and a half years later he’s winning a Cox Plate a progression which is almost unheard of.

There’s a chorus of punters saying he was lucky to win the Cox Plate with several unlucky runners.

Bottom line is that James McDonald used him in the early stages to get the gun spot on the speed. Then when the on-pacers came back he was left in front and had to defy the challengers which he did.

James McDonald, James Cummings and Dominic Beirne could have decided with their tactics to go back and sit in the ruck but then they would have also been dicing with bad luck.

Simply they wanted the best horse in the best spot and wanted to take risks out of the equation.

He defeated two horses with sound international form. Last year he got beaten by State Of Rest who then went on to win two Group One races in France and England.

He’s better than Elvstroem who won overseas. He’s done what So You Think did in the spring of 2010 and win four Group One races on end.

He’s durable, he can take a spot anywhere in a field. When he travels overseas they will know he’s there.
