Opinion: Kyle Schwarber is NL MVP favourite after four home run game
6 months ago - Sportingbase
Philadelphia Phillies left fielder Kyle Schwarber of Middletown, Ohio has had an unbelievable season in 2025. He leads the National League with 49 home runs and the Major Leagues with 119 runs batted in.
On Thursday, Schwarber had a game for the ages. He became the third player this season to hit four home runs in a game. Schwarber followed Eugenio Suarez of the Arizona Diamondbacks, and Nick Kurtz of the Athletics. By what he achieved on Thursday, Schwarber put himself as the favourite to win the National League Most Valuable Player in my opinion.

Schwarber accomplished the feat in a 19-4 Phillies win over the Atlanta Braves. He became the third Phillies player to hit four home runs in a game (followed by Chuck Klein and Mike Schmidt). The 2025 Major League Baseball Home Run Derby champion also had nine runs batted in, which set a Phillies franchise record.
Schwarber’s first home run was a 450 foot shot to right field to put the Phillies on the scoreboard, as it was 3-1 Atlanta at the time. Schwarber’s second home run was a two-run dinger of 383 feet that scored Trea Turner in the bottom of the fourth inning, and put the Phillies up 10-3. Schwarber’s third home run was a three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning. He scored Turner and Harrison Bader from 378 feet, and put the Phillies up 15-3. Then in the bottom of the seventh inning, Schwarber hit a 407 foot shot that scored Bader and Edmundo Sosa. The Phillies then went up by a score of 18-4.
