Opinion: Colts appear uncomfortable with Riley Leonard at quarterback
3 months ago - Sportingbase
It has been a great season for the Indianapolis Colts. They are getting terrific production at the running back position from Jonathan Taylor of Salem, New Jersey, and the Colts passing game has exceeded expectations.
Just how good has Colts quarterback Daniel Jones been? Jones is currently fifth in the NFL with 2840 passing yards. He has had great chemistry this season with wide receivers Alec Pierce of Glen Ellyn, Illinois and Michael Pittman of Woodland Hills, California, and rookie tight end Tyler Warren of Mechanicsville, Virginia, who has emerged as one of the best tight ends in the NFL.

However, the news for the Colts offense took a turn for the worst this week. It was reported by Joseph Zucker of Bleacher Report that Jones has a fracture in his fibula.
Under normal circumstances, the backup quarterback would step in and be the quarterback in charge. However, it appears that Jones will give it a try on Sunday against the Houston Texans.

At first glance, the decision is interesting, and it appears that the Colts have zero confidence whatsoever in quarterback Riley Leonard of Fairhope, Alabama. Leonard was the Colts’s sixth round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft out of Notre Dame. You also have to wonder if the Colts would have made the same decision if Anthony Richardson Sr. would have been available. Richardson Sr. is currently out with a broken orbital bone suffered in practice. The Colts lead the AFC South at eight wins and three losses, and have the third best record in the AFC.
