Opinion: Can The Cats Go Back To Back?
3 years ago - Sportingbase
As Melbourne found out last season winning consecutive AFL flags isn’t a walk in the park.
Now it’s the Geelong Cats turn to attempt back to back flags and although they romped in with the 2022 AFL Grand Final a different set of circumstances waits for them in 2023.
Every club will be looking to find a way to circumvent their game style. For a while last season it looked like no one could stop the Demons but eventually they went from being invincible to beatable.
Last season the Cats reigned supreme. They won 18 of their 22 matches including their last 16 games in a row.
They were imperious in the Grand Final with the game virtually all over 10 minutes into the match as they went on to win by 81 points over Sydney which followed a 71 points walloping of Brisbane in the Grand Final.

The big question is who will captain the Cats. It’s a choice between Patrick Dangerfield, Tom Stewart and Mark Blicavs.
Surely Dangerfield gets the nod. He’s been a champion and although no one will replace Selwood on the field as a player or as a leader, he can adequately fill his shoes.
The Cats are $6 with TopSport to make it back-to-back premierships.
