Opinion: Brewers deliver statement series win over Blue Jays

The Milwaukee Brewers are the best team in baseball at the moment with a record of 85 wins and 53 losses for a winning percentage of .616. They are the only team this season with a winning percentage above .600 and lead the Detroit Tigers by five full games.

What we saw from Milwaukee in the final three days of August was something very impressive indeed. Milwaukee went into Toronto and won two of three games. The reason why the series win was noteworthy is because the Blue Jays have been mighty good at home this season. Entering the series, the Blue Jays were at 44 wins and 22 losses at Rogers Centre. Toronto currently has the second best home record in the Major Leagues. The team with the best home record is currently the Philadelphia Phillies at 45 wins and 23 losses.

The Brewers won Friday night’s contest 7-2 and Saturday afternoon’s contest 4-1. On Friday, Freddy Peralta of Moca, Dominican Republic had a quality start. Peralta threw six shutout innings and only gave up one hit, and had eight strikeouts compared to one walk. He now leads the Major Leagues with 16 wins. Offensively, shortstop Andruw Monasterio hit his fourth home run of the season.

On Saturday, Quinn Priester of Glendale Heights, Illinois also had a quality start. Like Peralta, he threw six shutout innings anhd had three strikeouts, and allowed five hits, and had zero walks. Brewers designated hitter Christian Yelich of Thousand Oaks, California had two extra base hits as he had one double and one home run, and center fielder Jackson Chourio of Maracaibo, Venezuela also homered.
