One-year extension for Reynolds to be announced before Vegas

The Brisbane Broncos have all but settled a one-year extension with Adam Reynolds that will see the veteran halfback voluntarily take a pay cut so the club can spread the salary cap across more of its young stars.
The Sporting Base understands the deal is all tied up and is expected to be announced sometime before the Broncos open their season across the pond in Las Vegas in March.

While Ezra Mam’s deal isn’t the main reason for Reynolds’ pay haircut, it’s exactly the kind of extension the 33-year-old hopes the club can make after his sacrifice. Mam just signed a monster five-year, $4 million deal this week and something quite similar is reportedly in the works for explosive fullback Reece Walsh as well.

Reynolds, who joined the Broncos in 2022, was expected to retire after three years at Red Hill.
It made complete sense too, especially considering Reynolds has already played 274 NRL games, 43 with Brisbane. Injuries have dogged the latter end of his lengthy career too, leading many to believe it was only a matter of time before the 33-year-old’s body gave out—a concern Reynolds has quietly held for several seasons now.
The tenured halfback has been enjoying his time in Brisbane so much though that he has reconsidered that original plan. Perhaps more importantly, so have Broncos officials, who believe his tutelage with the club’s youngsters has been vital.
Things were put in motion soon after Reynolds played a pivotal role in taking Brisbane to the 2023 grand finals, and while they eventually lost to the indomitable Panthers, there were long minutes in that game where it looked like the club’s 18-year title drought was over.
Financially, the extension should still earn Reynolds around $600,000 in 2025, if not a little more. He has been earning $800,000 since he left the South Sydney Rabbitohs two seasons ago.
