Oklahoma City Thunder win 2025 NBA Finals

The Oklahoma City Thunder have won the 2025 NBA Finals. In the seventh and deciding game from the Paycom Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, the Thunder defeated the 103-91. This is the second championship in the history of the Thunder franchise. Before moving to the midwest region of the United States in 2008, the Seattle SuperSonics won the 1979 NBA Finals.
What we saw in game seven from Oklahoma City was a similar style of basketball as game six from Indiana– great defense. The Thunder had 14 steals compared to six for the Pacers. The Thunder had eight blocks compared to four for the Pacers. Thunder power forward Chet Holmgren of Minneapolis, Minnesota set the record for most blocks in the seventh game of the NBA Finals with five. The previous record was four which belonged to Marvin Webster of Baltimore, Maryland and Kevin Garnett of Greenville, South Carolina. Interestingly, Webster or Garnett did not win their series. Webster was with the SuperSonics in the 1978 NBA Finals, which lost to the Washington Bullets, and Garnett was with the Boston Celtics in the 2010 NBA Finals, which lost to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Holmgren also had 18 points, and was one of five Thunder players to reach double digits in scoring. NBA Finals MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of Toronto, Ontario, Canada led the Thunder with 29 points and 12 assists. Meanwhile, forward Jalen Williams of Denver, Colorado had 20 points, and guard Alex Caruso of College Station, Texas, and point guard Cason Wallace of Dallas, Texas had 10 points each coming off the bench.
The Pacers actually had a narrow 48-47 lead at the half. However, the biggest story in the opening 24 minutes was the fact that Tyrese Haliburton injured his Achilles. The Thunder dominated the Pacers in the second half 56-43. The turning point came early in the third quarter with the game tied at 56. Then Gilgeous-Alexander, Holmgren, and Williams all made a three-pointer to put the Thunder up 65-56. It would be a lead they would not look back from.
