Oakland Athletics stay alive with five home runs in 9-7 win over Houston

The Oakland Athletics remain alive in the 2020 Major League Baseball Playoffs after registering five home runs in a 9-7 win over the Houston Astros in game three of the American League Divisional Series from Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California on Wednesday. In fact, five separate Athletics registered home runs in game three as Mark Canha of San Jose, California, shortstop Marcus Semien of San Francisco, California, second baseman Tommy La Stella of Westwood, New Jersey, first baseman Matt Olson of Atlanta, Georgia, and third baseman Chad Pinder of Richmond, Virginia all smacked the baseball out of the park.

The Athletics became the first team in Major League Baseball history to have a home run from their first baseman, second baseman, third baseman and shortstop in a postseason game. Of the five dingers, the most significant came from Pinder, who hit a three run home run in the seventh inning to tie the game at seven, after the Astros took a 7-4 lead. Oakland then won the game on back-to-back sacrifice flies by catcher Sean Murphy of Peekskill, New Jersey and Pinder in the eighth inning.

Even though the Athletics won game three of the best of five series, they still trail the Houston Astros two games to one. Houston won game one of the series by a score of 10-5 on Monday and then 5-2 in game two on Tuesday.

In the other American League Divisional Series, the Tampa Bay Rays have a two games to one lead over the New York Yankees. On Wednesday, Randy Arozarena of Havana, Cuba, and Joey Wendle of Wilmington, Delaware each had three hits in an 8-4 Tampa win.
