Novak Djokovic wins 100th ATP tennis tournament

For the 100th time in his career, Novak Djokovic of Belgrade, Serbia has won on the ATP Tour. On Saturday, Djokovic won the Geneva Open by beating Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz in the final, 5-7, 7-6, 7-6. Djokovic won the second set tiebreak 7-2 and the third set tiebreak 7-2.

This was the eighth time in his career Djokovic has beaten Hurkacz. In fact, Hurkacz has never beaten Djokovic. This was the first time in Djokovic’s career he has faced Hurkacz in an ATP final. Of Djokovic’s eight wins over Hurkacz, three have come on clay. The first came in their first ever meeting, the first round of the 2019 French Open, which Djokovic won 6-4, 6-2, 6-2. The second came in the quarterfinals of Madrid in 2022, which Djokovic won 6-3, 6-4.

Djokovic’s first serve was working effectively in Saturday’s final. He won 86% of the points on his first serve.

This was Djokovic’s first tournament title in Geneva and his first title of 2025. It was also his first tournament victory since winning the gold medal at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris last summer.

Djokovic becomes the third tennis player to win 100 titles. The other two are Jimmy Connors of the United States, who has 109, and Roger Federer of Switzerland, who has won 103.

The fact that Djokovic chose Geneva, which was a 250 event, rather than Hamburg, which was a 500 event, was interesting. His focus was simply to get in the best shape possible prior to the second major of the 2025 tennis season.

At the French Open on Tuesday, Djokovic, who is the sixth seed, steamrolled past Mackenzie McDonald of the United States, 6-3, 6-3, 6-3. He will next play Corentin Moutet of France in the second round on Thursday.
