‘Nothing in it’: Munster not charged over biting accusation

Cameron Munster has escaped being charged by the NRL over an on-field allegation he bit Penrith Panther’s centre Paul Alamoti late-on in the grand final on Sunday.
The NRL found no clear evidence of the biting claim and confirmed no action would be taken early on Monday morning. On the day, replays were unclear regarding any possible bite.

The grand final was halted after Alamoti made the claim, with Klein claiming there’d be “an allegation” before placing Munster on report. “It can’t be certain,” the decider’s main referee said. “It’s on report. [The match review committee] will deal with it later… I just saw saliva.”
Munster insisted several times in the next minutes that he hadn’t bitten Alamoti during the tackle.
“There was nothing in it,” the five-eighth then told reporters after the Storm’s loss.
“I spoke to Ash about the allegation and he pretty much just told me that if someone alleges a certain thing, they have to put a report and it’s up to the judiciary. But honestly there’s nothing in it.”
“He [Alamoti] said he felt pressure and I said I didn’t bite him. That’s footy. I’ve done a lot of silly things and put my hand up for it. But I can put my hand on my heart there’s definitely nothing. I put my hand up with certain things I definitely do in games and I’m a very honest person. I’m pretty disappointed, I’m trying to get that all of those grubby little incidents out of my game.”

Alamoti didn’t push for anything beyond the on-field allegation amid his post-match celebrations, declaring, “Whatever happens on the field, stays on the field. I’ve just won a premiership so that’s the last thing on my mind… I’m worried about partying.”

Beyond the Munster incident, there were no charges from the NRL Match Review Committee.
