NFL Weekly Preview Week 3 2024: Key Injuries, Difference Makers & Projected Upsets

The third week of the 2024 National Football League season is just hours away. The biggest story heading into week three is not who is playing, but who is not.

Key Injuries

There are five notable injuries heading into week three. Those inactive are San Francisco 49ers star running back Christian McCaffrey of of Castle Rock, Colorado (Achilles injury and is expected to be out another month), 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel of Inman, South Carolina (several weeks with a calf strain), Kansas City Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco of Vineland, New Jersey (six weeks with a broken fibula), Los Angeles Rams wide receiver and former Super Bowl MVP Cooper Kupp of Yakima, Washington (out one month with a high ankle sprain), and Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa of Ewa Beach, Hawaii (one month with a concussion).

Fantasy Stars

For the second straight week, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes of Tyler, Texas is the top rated quarterback. This week with the Chiefs in Atlanta in prime time, Mahomes is projected to get 278 passing yards, 22 rushing yards, and two touchdown passes. Remember last week against the Cincinnati Bengals, Mahomes only had 151 passing yards, the second lowest in a game he has ever had.

Ja’Marr Chase of Harvey, Louisiana is the top rated healthy receiver. He is projected to get six catches for 82 yards and one touchdown for the winless Cincinnati Bengals against the Washington Commanders on Monday night. Breece Hall of Omaha, Nebraska is the top rated running back. He is projected to get 17 rushes for 78 rushing yards, and four catches for 26 receiving yards and one touchdown on Thursday night for the New York Jets against the New England Patriots.

Projected Upsets

There are no upsets I am predicting in week three. Remember, last week I only predicted two upsets and there were eight.
