NFL running back Kenyan Drake retires at age 30

According to Grant Gordon of nfl.com, former National Football League running back Kenyan Drake of Powder Springs, Georgia has decided to retire at the age of 30. Drake played eight seasons in the NFL from 2016 to 2023.

Drake began his NFL career with the Miami Dolphins, where he played four seasons from 2016 to 2019. He then played two seasons with the Arizona Cardinals from 2019 to 2020, one season with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2021, two seasons with the Baltimore Ravens in 2022 and 2023, and one season with the Green Bay Packers in 2023.

In 104 NFL regular season games, Drake had 869 rushes for 3866 rushing yards and 33 touchdown runs. He also had 218 catches for 1655 receiving yards and eight touchdowns catches.

The fact that Drake is retiring should not come as a huge surprise. That is because he only had two catches for 31 yards this past season, and was used mostly as a backup player in a reserve role. Drake’s receptions came in a 22-19 Ravens loss to the Indianapolis Colts on September 24.

Drake’s finest season from a rushing perspective came with the Cardinals in 2020. He had 955 yards rushing yards and 10 touchdowns, along with 25 rushes for 137 rushing yards. However, Drake’s 2019 season cannot be ignored either. Five years ago he had a career high 1162 total yards (817 rushing yards and 345 receiving yards) as he split his time with the Dolphins and Cardinals.

Drake was initially the Dolphins’ third round pick. 73rd overall, in the 2016 NFL Draft. He played his college football at the University of Alabama. With the Crimson Tide, he had 1495 rushing yards during four seasons.
