The New York Yankees all of a sudden are the hottest team in baseball offensively. This week the Yankees pounded the Toronto Blue Jays in a three game sweep by a combined score of 43-14 at Yankee Stadium.

With the sweep, the Yankees improved to a record of 29 wins and 21 losses. The Blue Jays are still doing ok, with a record of 26 wins and 23 losses. However there is no doubt that Toronto needs to fix its pitching woes fast if they hope to be one of the 16 teams in the 2020 Major League Baseball postseason.

As a team this week, the Yankees recorded 19 home runs. That is a record for the most home runs in a series. On Thursday, in the Yankees 10-7 win, the Yankees tied the Major League record for most home runs in an inning with five.

Three Yankees in particular had notable offensive performances this week. DJ LeMahieu, who currently leads the Major Leagues with a .373 batting average, batted .615 in the series with eight hits in 13 at bats. Luke Voit had four home runs in the three game set. He now has 20 home runs, which leads Major League Baseball. Voit has three more home runs than Jose Abreu of the Chicago White Sox, who is second with 17 home runs.

Meanwhile, in the Yankees’ 13-2 win over the Blue Jays on Wednesday, catcher Kyle Higashioka hit three home runs. He became the first Yankees player in franchise history to hit three home runs while batting ninth in the lineup. With LeMahieu hitting two home runs in the leadoff spot, the Yankees became the first team in Major League Baseball history to have their first and ninth batters hit multiple home runs in the same game.
