NBA Preview: Our Picks For This Weekend’s Games 10/12

The start of our new bi-weekly segment on The Sporting Base, we will feature six games a week in the National Basketball Association, and explain why we like particular teams. Once the betting lines have been updated, we will add them to the piece.

Phoenix Suns @ New Orleans Pelicans–Friday–8:30 PM ET

The Suns have not just one game in New Orleans this weekend, but two as they also play there on Sunday at 3:30 PM ET. The Suns (16-9) have lost by 46 points over the last two games, and are now facing the best team in the West, the red hot New Orleans Pelicans (16-8). The Suns are a -1.5, but it is time to believe in New Orleans (+1.5), who are winners of five straight. In the streak, New Orleans beat Denver 121-106 on Sunday. The current total point line is 227.

Our Pick

Take the under here as the Pelicans have given up less than 100 points in two of their last three games, and Suns star Chris Paul only had four points in his last outing.

Boston Celtics @ Golden State Warriors–Saturday–8:30 PM ET

In a nationally televised contest on Saturday, as the game can be seen on ABC (American Broadcasting Company), the Celtics are coming off one of their most impressive wins of the season–a 125-98 win over Phoenix. A reason I really like the Celtics right now is they are getting strong offensive production at the moment not just from Jayson Tatum, but Jaylen Brown too. Yes, I know the Warriors are 11-2 at home, but their overall inconsistent play is why you need to pick Boston in the 2022 NBA Finals rematch.

Our Pick

Take the Celtics, as they are the best team in the NBA at the moment for a reason at 21-5. The Warriors are at .500 at 13-13. I also recommend you take the over of 235 as both teams will be scoring frequently. The Celtics are at -2 and the Warriors are at +2.5.

Utah Jazz @ Denver Nuggets–Saturday–9 PM ET

Both of these teams had dramatic wins this week. The Jazz found a way to have a historic comeback against the Warriors, while the Nuggets got a three-point shot from Jamal Murray with nine tenths of a second left in a 121-120 win over the Portland Trail Blazers on Thursday.

Our Pick

I recommend you select the Nuggets (15-10) in this one, as Utah (15-12) will have played the second game of the back-to-back. The Jazz will have hosted Minnesota on Friday night. Denver is at -11.5 and the Jazz are at +11.5. Also take the over of 228.5, as the Jazz have scored less than 110 points in only two of their last 13 games.
