NBA Preview: May 5

The NBA Playoffs continue won Friday with two game threes. The Philadelphia 76ers host the Boston Celtics all tied up at one game apiece, and the Denver Nuggets lead the Phoenix Suns two games to none. Here is why I like Boston and Denver tonight.

Boston Celtics @ Philadelphia 76ers–7:30 PM ET

The Celtics played exceptional basketball in game two of the series on Wednesday in coming through with a 121-87 win. The 34-point victory was an excellent team-based performance which has given the Celtics significant momentum heading into game three. Yes, the series shifts to Philly, but the 76ers do not have a healthy Joe Embiid and Boston found a way to contain James Harden in game two. The 76ers deserve praise too for limiting Jayson Tatum to seven points on Wednesday, but they seemed to have a difficult time defending everyone else. Take Boston at -2 and the over at 214 as Philly’s defense enters this contest not in the best of form.

Denver Nuggets @ Phoenix Suns–10 PM ET

The Nuggets won by 18 points in game one, and then only 10 points in game two. The Monday game was relatively close until the fourth quarter when the Nuggets outscored the Suns 27-14 en route to a relatively low scoring contest of 97-87, which went in the Nuggets’s favour. Don’t expect there to be 184 total points scored again, as there is just too much offense on both squads. Yet the Suns do deserve praise for being able to contain Jamal Murray to 10 points. However, until they find a way to contain Nikola Jokic (39 points and 16 boards in game two), this series will be short and sweet. Take Denver at +4.5 and the over at 224.
