NBA Fantasy Preview 2021-22: Milwaukee Bucks

In a 30-part series leading up to the start of the 2021-22 National Basketball Association season, we will take a look at each NBA franchise from a fantasy perspective. The 17th team we will review is the Milwaukee Bucks.

It was a dream season for the Milwaukee Bucks in 2020-21. They won their first NBA Finals in half a century, as Milwaukee knocked out the Phoenix Suns in six games. The Bucks’s star player, Giannis Antetokounmpo might not have been the league’s most valuable player as he was the two previous seasons, but was still one of the elite players on the court.

Ranked third among power forwards (only behind Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets and Julius Randle of the New York Knicks), and fourth among centers (only behind Jokic, Randle, and Nikola Vucevic of the Chicago Bulls), Antetokounmpo had 2683 fantasy points in 2020-21. He had a .569 field goal percentage, .685 free throw percentage, 1717 points (sixth in the NBA), 671 rebounds, 357 assists, 72 steals, 73 blocked shots, and 207 turnovers for 2683 fantasy points.* A major reason why Antetokounmpo is not among the top three in centers and power forwards is because of his poor free throw shooting and high turnover totals.

The Bucks have another elite player when it comes to fantasy. That is forward Khris Middleton. The veteran small forward had 2208 fantasy points, who was fourth in the NBA at the position, behind Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics, Bradley Beal of the Washington Wizards and Devin Booker of the Phoenix Suns. Middleton had a field goal percentage of .476, free throw percentage of .898, 151 three pointers, 1385 points, 406 rebounds, 370 assists, 74 steals, and 178 turnovers. Middleton’s 370 assists were second among small forwards. He was only behind DeMar DeRozan of the Bulls, who had 422 assists last year with the San Antonio Spurs.

At point guard, Jrue Holiday is ranked 18th, right behind LeBron James. Last year Holiday had a field goal percentage of .503, a free throw percentage of .787, 1046 points, 111 three-pointers, 268 rebounds, 357 assists, 96 steals and 127 turnovers for 1751 fantasy points. Meanwhile, center Brook Lopez (1335 fantasy points), and shooting guard Donte DiVincenzo (1383 fantasy points), should be considered in the later rounds.

*Please note: To calculate NBA fantasy points for point guards, shooting guards and small forwards, I use the formula (3PTM+Points+Rebounds+Assists+Steals-Turnovers). For power forwards and centers, I use the formula (Points+Rebounds+Assists+Steals+Blocks-Turnovers).
