According to Joey Mistretta of Clutch Points on Tuesday, former National Basketball Association power forward and center Paul Millsap of Monroe, Louisiana has retired from the National Basketball Association at the age of 39, Millsap played 16 seasons in the NBA from 2006 to 2022. He was with the Utah Jazz for seven seasons from 2006 to 2013, with the Atlanta Hawks for four seasons from 2013 to 2017, with the Denver Nuggets for four seasons from 2017 to 2021, and with the Brooklyn Nets and Philadelphia 76ers for his final NBA season in 2021 to 2022. In his final NBA season, Millsap was in the blockbuster trade involving James Harden and Ben Simmons. 

In 16 NBA seasons, Millsap averaged 13.4 points per game, 7.1 rebounds per game, 2.2 assists per game, 1.2 steals per game, and one block per game. To average one or more in all five of the aforementioned categories over a career spanning 1085 games is very impressive. Millsap also had a field goal percentage of .489, three point percentage of .341, and a free throw percentage of .736.

According to Shams Charina of ESPN, Millsap was one of eight players in NBA history to have 500 three-pointers (541), 1000 blocks (1045), and 1000 steals (1327). The other seven are Clifford Robinson, Robert Horry, Rasheed Wallace, Dirk Nowitzki, LeBron James, Shawn Marion and Kevin Durant.

Millsap’s most notable seasons were the four with the Hawks from 2013 to 2017. It was during this time he was an All-Star for four straight years. In 297 games, Millsap averaged 17.4 points per game, 8.3 rebounds per game, 3.3 assists per game, 1.7 steals per game, and 1.2 blocks per game. He also had a field goal percentage of .463, three point percentage of .335, and a free throw percentage of .753.

Millsap played his college career at Louisiana Tech from 2003 to 2006. He then was selected in the second round, 47th overall by the Utah Jazz in the 2006 NBA Draft.
