Murray agrees to max extension with Nuggets

Jamal Murray has agreed to a four-year, $208 million contract extension to remain with the Denver Nuggets, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

The deal sees Murray remain tied to the franchise until at least the end of the 2028-29 season.

The 27-year-old is fresh off a year in which he averaged 21.2 ppg and 6.5 apg on 58.6 TS% in 59 starts.

The Nuggets’ title defence ended in the second round of the playoffs going down to the Timberwolves in seven games.

Fresh off a long-term ACL injury, Murray played a crucial role in leading the team to their first title in 2023 averaging 26.1 ppg and 7.1 apg in their 20-game playoff run.

With Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Bruce Brown, and Jeff Green having all moved on since the championship, it was essential that the Nuggets locked down their star point guard.

The news comes just days after ESPN’s Zach Lowe revealed that head coach Michael Malone had not been seeing “eye-to-eye” with the Nuggets’ front office as they continue to prioritise the development of draft picks over the acquisition of veteran talent.

The team added Russell Westbrook and Dario Šarić over the offseason but lost Caldwell-Pope in free agency with the likes of Christian Braun Peyton Watson expected to transition into larger roles.
