MULLINS OUT TO SETTLE UNFINISHED MELBOURNE CUP BUSINESS

It’s just over two months until Australia’s most iconic race, the Melbourne Cup is held, and Irish stayer Vauban is dominating discussions regarding the race even this far out.
The Willie Mullins trained stayer has won his past two starts impressively winning by 7.5 lengths at Royal Ascot over 2816 metres and the winning the Group 3 Ballyroan Stakes at Naas on
August 7 over 2414 metres by a length and a half.
Mullins knows what it takes to come to Australia and he can boast of a second and third placing with Max Dynamite in 2015 and 2017 respectively.

PlayUp has Vauban as a $8 favourite for the Melbourne Cup. Mullins said he has unfinished business with the Melbourne Cup.
Ryan Moore is likely to ride him and there’s little doubt that if everything went off without a hitch between now and the Melbourne Cup, Vauban will start at a much shorter price.
Mullins is also considering bringing Vauban’s stablemate Absurde, who won the Ebor Handicap at York on Saturday, out for the Melbourne Cup as he gained an automatic entry after his win in that race.
Absurde was ridden by Frankie Dettori who could have his final Melbourne Cup ride on that galloper. He is an $18 chance with PlayUp.

Equal second favourites in PlayUp’s Melbourne Cup markets are Chris Waller’s Francesco Guardi, and the two horses which have won golden tickets into the race, which are Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott’s Goldman and Grahame Begg’s Lunar Flare.
They are all at $13.
