Round two is now complete at the 2025 AIG British Women’s Open. On Friday, the leader still represents Japan, but there is a new Japanese leader. After round one, the leaders were Eri Okayama and Rio Takeda. Now the leader is Miyu Yamashita of Neyagawa.

Yamashita is currently at -11. She has a three-stroke lead over Takeda. Heading into round two, Yamashita was in third place at -4.

On Friday in Wales, Yamashita shot a second round score of seven-under-par. She had seven birdies and zero bogeys. Yamashita birdied the first, second, ninth, 10th, 11th, 13th, and 18th holes.

In round one on Thursday in Wales, Yamashita had four birdies, one eagle and two bogeys. Yamashita’s eagle came on the par five ninth hole. Yamashita’s eagle putt put her at -5.

It is interesting that there were 29 players within three strokes of the lead after round one. Now there are only two golfers battling it out for the fifth and final major of the year.

Yamashita has had impressive results at the majors in the last couple of years. She has made 10 cuts in the last 11 majors. At the last two Women’s PGA Championships, Yamashita finished second and sixth. The only major she has not made in that time was the 2024 Women’s British Open at St. Andrews.

Throughout her career, Yamashita has won 13 times on the LPGA of Japan Tour. However, she is still looking for her first win on the LPGA Tour. Yamashita is trying to become the second Japanese player to win a major in women’s golf this season. The first was Mao Saigo who won the Chevron.
