Minnesota Twins lose their 18th straight MLB playoff game

Despite winning the American League Central Division with a record of 36 wins and 24 losses, the Minnesota Twins continue to struggle mightily in the postseason. On Wednesday, the Twins were eliminated from the playoffs when they were beaten 3-1 by the Houston Astros in game two of their American League first round series. The Astros beat the Twins two games to none in the best of three series, and as a result Minnesota has now lost an unprecedented 18 consecutive postseason games.
Minnesota has not won a playoff game since beating the New York Yankees 2-0 in game one of the American League Divisional Series on October 5, 2004. They have since lost 13 playoff games to the New York Yankees, three games to the Oakland Athletics, and two games to the Astros.
The two losses to the Astros are going to sting for the Twins in the coming months. During the regular season, Minnesota went through the entire regular season without losing back-to-back games, and only lost seven times at home all season long. Minnesota in fact had the best home record in the Major Leagues this season as they won 24 of 31 games.

The Astros are one of two teams in the American League who have advanced to the second round. The other is the Tampa Bay Rays who beat the Toronto Blue Jays two games to none. The Blue Jays were completely overmatched by a Rays squad that beat them 11-3 over 18 innings. The Astros will play the winner of the Oakland Athletics/Chicago White Sox series, and the Rays will play the winner of the New York Yankees/Cleveland Indians series.
