Minnesota Timberwolves win 2020 NBA Draft Lottery

The Minnesota Timberwolves have won the 2020 NBA Draft Lottery and will get the number one pick in the 2020 NBA Draft according to the Associated Press on Thursday. The Timberwolves did have the third best chance of winning the lottery as they had the third worst record in the NBA regular season as they were at 19 wins and 45 losses. The only teams worse than Minnesota were the Cleveland Cavaliers (19 wins and 46 losses) and the Golden State Warriors (19 wins and 50 losses).

The 29 NBA teams other than the Warriors might be taking a large sigh of relief at this time. That is because the Warriors did not get the number one pick. Golden State had the potential to be extremely dangerous to have a no. 1 pick added to their roster alongside Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, and Andrew Wiggins. One must realize the Warriors could still be extremely dangerous in 2020-21 as they have rights to the number two pick.

At this time, the projected number one pick in the 2020 NBA Draft is Anthony Edwards, a 6’5″, 225 pound shooting guard from the University of Georgia Bulldogs. Even though Edwards was the SEC Freshman of the Year, he simply does not bring the fame of former highly-touted NBA first overall picks such as Zion Williamson, LeBron James, Shaquille O’Neal and Magic Johnson.

Minnesota had the first overall pick of the 2015 NBA Draft. That year they selected Karl-Anthony Towns of Edison, New Jersey from the University of Kentucky. In five years with the Timberwolves, Towns has only reached the playoffs once–in 2018 where Minnesota lost in five games in the Western Conference Quarterfinals to the Houston Rockets.
