For the second time this season, an Australian has won on the PGA Tour. After Karl Vilips of Perth won the Puerto Rico Open on March 9, Min Woo Lee of Perth won the 2025 Houston Open on Sunday.

Lee posted a winning score of -20. He had a score of four-under-par 66 in the first round, six-under-par 64 in the second round, seven-under-par 63 in round three, and a score of three-under-par 67 in round four. Lee’s most successful hole was the third. He recorded a birdie on the par five in all four rounds.

Two major champions were tied for second place at -19. The two American golfers who were only one stroke back were 2022 Masters champion and 2024 Masters champion Scottie Scheffler of Ridgewood, New Jersey, and 2019 United States Open champion Gary Woodland of Topeka, Kansas. Meanwhile, Sami Valimaki of Nokia, Finland was alone in fourth place at -17 and three strokes back.

Scheffler was one of our three golfers we liked the most last week. This was in fact the third time Scheffler finished second at the Houston Open. He was only behind Jason Kokrak in 2021 and Germany’s Stephan Jaeger in 2024.

Valikmaki was the second Finnish person to make sports headlines over the weekend. On Friday, the Memphis Grizzlies hired Tuomas Iisalo of Helsinki as the first Finnish head coach in National Basketball Association history.

With the win, Lee moves to 22nd in the Official World Golf Rankings. He is currently the highest ranked Australian golfer. Lee passed 2013 Masters champion Adam Scott of Adelaide (32nd), and 2015 PGA Championship winner Jason Day of Beaudesert (36th) with the win.
