The Los Angeles Angels have had a very disappointing season as they are last in the American League West. However, on Saturday night in a 3-0 Angels win over the Colorado Rockies (the Angels only home win in their last 10 games), centerfielder Mike Trout of Vineland, New Jersey accomplished a historical achievement. He became the 59th Major League Baseball player all-time to hit 400 home runs in a career, and the 20th MLB player to hit 400 home runs with one team.
Trout’s 400th MLB home run came in the bottom of the eighth inning off of Rockies relief pitcher Jaden Hill. It was a 485 foot solo home run to center field. It was one of three solo home runs for the Angels in the game. The others were hit by left fielder Taylor Ward of Dayton, Ohio, and first baseman Nolan Schanuel of Boca Raton, Florida.
In Trout’s career, he is batting .294 with 400 home runs and 1013 runs batted in. During 1642 games, 7182 plate appearances and 5948 at bats, Trout scored 1190 runs and had 1748 hits, 324 doubles, 55 triples, 214 stolen bases, 1065 walks, 3382 total bases, 61 sacrifice flies, an on base percentage of .407 and a slugging percentage of .569.

Meanwhile, this season, Trout is batting .229 with 22 home runs and 59 runs batted in. During 124 games, 437 at bats, 535 plate appearances, he has scored 67 runs, and has exactly 100 hits, 13 doubles, one triple, two stolen bases, 85 walks, 181 total bases, six sacrifice flies, an on base percentage of .358 and a slugging percentage of .414. Trout’s triple came in a 4-3 Angels win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on April 24.
There has also been an interesting story about the individual who caught the 400th home run ball. In return to giving Trout the ball, he reportedly requested three bats in return, and an opportunity to play catch with Trout.
