Michael Porter Jr. sets Nuggets record for most three-pointers in a season

According to Jesse Sarles of CBS News Colorado on Thursday, small forward Michael Porter Jr. of Indianapolis, Indiana set a Nuggets franchise record for most three-pointers in a season with 193. He accomplished the feat in a 113-100 win over the New York Knicks at the Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado. Porter Jr. broke the record previously set by small forward Dale Ellis of Maritta, Georgia, who had 192 three-pointers with the Nuggets during the 1996-97 season.

Porter Jr. made three three-pointers in the contest. He made Nuggets history with three minutes and nine seconds left in the fourth quarter. Porter Jr.’s record breaking shot was a 25 foot jump shot with Aaron Gordon of San Jose, California picking up the assist. Porter Jr.’s 192 three-pointers this season came in 478 attempts.

In the Nuggets win over the Knicks, Porter Jr. led the team with 31 points. He made 13 of 16 field goals, three of six three point attempts, and two free throws. Porter Jr. also had eight rebounds and was a +25.

In 2023-24, Porter Jr. is averaging 17.1 points per game, seven rebounds per game, and 1.5 assists per game. He also has a field goal percentage of .493, three-point percentage of .404 and a free throw percentage of .830.

Even though Porter Jr. set the Nuggets record, it is only the 169th most three pointers in a single season. Stephen Curry of Akron, Ohio, who is the all-time leader for most three-pointers in a career with 3691, has the single season record with 402 in 2015-16 while with the Golden State Warriors.

With the win, the Nuggets improved to a record of 49 wins and 21 losses. They are tied with the Oklahoma City Thunder for the best record in the Western Conference.
