Michael Beasley’s time with Brooklyn Nets could be short-lived

Michael Beasley of Cheverly, Maryland may not have a chance to play with the Brooklyn Nets over the next month after all. Beasley was signed to a substitution contract with Brooklyn on July 9, but it appears his time with Brooklyn in Orlando might be over before it even starts.

That is because on Tuesday, Beasley tested positive for coronavirus, according to Joe Pantorno of amny.com. There is no doubt that coronavirus continues to decimate the Nets players, and Beasley is just the latest Brooklyn player with the horrific disease. Beasley follows Kevin Durant of Washington, D.C., Spencer Dinwiddie of Los Angeles, California, DeAndre Jordan of Houston, Texas, and Taurean Prince of San Marcos, Texas. Bleasley was in fact signed by the Nets to be a substitute for Prince.

Beasley did not play in the NBA in 2019-20. He had played 11 seasons from 2008 to 2019 with the Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves, Phoenix Suns, Houston Rockets, Milwaukee Bucks, New York Knicks, and Los Angeles Lakers. Last season with the Lakers, Beasley came off the bench and averaged seven points per game in 26 contests. Beasley’s career best season came in 2010-11, when he averaged 19.2 points per game with the Timberwolves.

Coronavirus is not the only issue plaguing the Nets at the moment. Injuries are as well. Kyrie Irving and Nic Claxton are out with shoulder surgeries. Meanwhile, in addition to coronavirus, Durant will not see anytime on the court during the restart as he recovers from an Achilles’ injury. The Nets are currently seventh in the Eastern Conference with a record of 30 wins and 34 losses.
