Miami Heat set NBA record for most free throws made in a game without a miss

It was a record-breaking game for the Miami Heat from the charity stripe on Tuesday. How good were the Heat? Well, they made all 40 of their free throws. That is a record number of free throws made in a game without a miss. In the process, the Heat defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder 112-111.

Six Heat players made a free throw. Jimmy Butler of Houston, Texas made all 23 free throws. Point guard Gabe Vincent of Modesto, California made six free throws. Jamal Cain of Pontiac, Michigan made five free throws. Meanwhile, small forward Max Strus of Hickory Hills, Illinois, guard Victor Oladipo of Silver Spring Maryland, and center Dewayne Dedmon of Lancaster, California made two free throws each.

The Utah Jazz held the old record of the most free throws made in a game without a miss. They made 39 free throws in a 137-121 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers on December 7, 1982. In that game, Danny Schayes of Syracuse, New York led the Jazz with 14 free throws made.

The 23 free throws made by Butler on Tuesday were a career-high. Butler’s previous high was 21 free throws made. He accomplished the feat on January 14, 2016 with the Chicago Bulls in a 115-111 win over the Philadelphia 76ers and equalled the accomplishment on January 2, 2017 in a 118-111 Bulls win over the Charlotte Hornets. Butler’s previous high of most free throws made in a game without a miss was 16. That came in a 121-114 Heat win over the Los Angeles Clippers on January 28, 2022.

With the win, the Heat improve to a record of 22 wins and 20 losses. They are in eighth place in the Eastern Conference.
