Lionel Messi has finally put pen to paper on his contract with French giants Paris Saint-Germain. The six-time Ballon d’Or winner was unveiled to PSG supporters through a series of Instagram posts and will wear the number 30.

It is a special number for the Argentinian as it was his first number worn when he made his debut for Barcelona in 2004. Steph Curry from the Golden State Warriors in the NBA also wears 30 and made sure to recognise the GOAT on Twitter.

Fabrizio Romano reported that the signed contract is worth “€35 million per season [with] add ons included”.

The Barcelona legend joins the PSG ranks and will slot into the forward line alongside Kylian Mbappe and former Barcelona teammate Neymar. The arrival boosts PSG’s already formidable attack as they look to capture a long-awaited Champions League title.

With four Champions League titles to his name and 672 goals for Barcelona, the Argentine has solidified his position as the world’s greatest footballer.

After it was announced that Messi was unable to resign from the Catalan club, PSG wasted no time before pursuing a deal to bring the Argentine to Paris and fans flocked to the stadium in anticipation to see their star signing revealed.

While it took a couple of days longer than expected, Messi has now joined the Parisian side and the world of football can now come to terms with the mammoth move.

Andres Iniesta, Messi’s former teammate said to Agence France-Presse “it will hurt to see him in another team’s shirt. Leo personifies Barcelona. He was everything.”

The addition of Messi is PSG’s fifth big signing of the transfer window with former foe Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid), Achraf Hakimi (Inter), Gianluigi Donnarumma (Milan), and Gini Wijnaldum (Liverpool) also making the move to France’s capital.

Unless Messi decides to return to Barcelona to end his career (which is unlikely as Messi has committed in the past to returning to Newell’s Old Boys in Argentina to finish his career), Ryan Giggs record of 36 trophies with one club will stand – the Argentine left Barcelona with 35.

It will be interesting to see what eventuates as Messi could make his debut against Strasbourg this weekend in the Ligue 1.
