Memphis Grizzlies deliver record breaking blowout wins on the road

The Memphis Grizzlies are playing some fine basketball on the road at the moment. On Wednesday, the Grizzlies hammered the Brooklyn Nets 118-79 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. With the win, the Grizzlies become only the third NBA team ever to win two consecutive games on the road by 35 points or more according to ESPN. The Grizzlies originally beat the Atlanta Hawks 127-88 on Monday from the State Farm Arena in Georgia.

In a complete team effort over the Hawks on Monday, nine different Grizzlies reached double digits in scoring. Gorgui Dieng and Jonas Valanciunas each had double doubles. Dieng had 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Valanciunas had 15 points and 15 rebounds. Meanwhile, Josh Jackson had 16 points, Tyus Jones had 15 points, Dillion Brooks and Ja Morant each had 13 points, Anthony Tolliver had 12 points, De’Anthony Melton had 11 points and John Konchar had 10 points.

In the Grizzlies win over the Nets, Jackson led the Mavericks with 19 points. Jones had 18 points, and was followed by Morant (15 points), and Brooks and Kyle Anderson, who each had 12 points. Valanciunas led the Grizzlies with 16 rebounds.

The only other teams to win two consecutive 35 point games on the road were the 1969-70 New York Knicks and the 2006-07 San Antonio Spurs. On February 6, 1970, the Knicks hammered the Cincinnati Royals by 43 points (135-92) and then the Philadelphia 76ers by 45 points (151-106) on February 13, 1970. On March 25, 2007, the Spurs hammered the Seattle SuperSonics by 41 points (120-79) and then the Golden State Warriors by 37 points (126-89) on March 26, 2007.

The Grizzlies are currently eighth in the Western Conference with a record of 31 wins and 31 losses. They have a three and a half game lead on the Portland Trail Blazers in the Western Conference.
