According to Basketball Reference on Tuesday, there was a trade made between the Dallas Mavericks and Philadelphia 76ers. The Mavericks traded shooting guard Quentin Grimes of Houston, Texas to the 76ers with a second round pick in the 2025 NBA Draft for small forward Caleb Martin of Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Grimes is joining his fourth NBA franchise after three seasons with the New York Knicks, and one season each with the Detroit Pistons and Dallas Mavericks. In 2024-25 with Dallas, he averaged 10.2 points per game, 3.8 rebounds per game, and 2.1 assists per game. Grimes also had a field goal percentage of .463, three point percentage of .398, and free throw percentage of .765.
Martin is joining his fourth NBA franchise. He previously played two seasons with the Charlotte Hornets, three seasons with the Miami Heat, and this past season with the Philadelphia 76ers. Martin was in his first year of a four year deal worth $32 million with the 76ers. In the summer, Martin made NBA headlines when he turned down a lofty contract from the Heat to test the free agent market. The decision backfired as he made $5 million less per season with Philadelphia than he would have if he stayed in Miami.
We have also seen a production drop this season by Martin. He is averaging 9.1 points per game with the 76ers this season after 10 points per game with the Heat last season.
This is the second significant deal by the Mavericks since the weekend. On Saturday night, those that follow the NBA, are still stunned Dallas sent Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers.
