Maverick McNealy wins 2024 RSM Classic

For the first time in his PGA Tour career, Maverick McNealy of Portola Valley, California has won a title. On Sunday, McNealy won the 2024 RSM Classic in Saint Simons Island, Georgia.

McNealy posted a four round score of -16. He had a first round score of eight-under-par 62, a second round score of two-under-par 70, a third round score of four-under-par 68, and a fourth round score of two-under-par 68. It should be noted that two different golf courses are used at the RSM Classic. In three of the four rounds, the Seaside Course is used, and in one of the first two rounds, the Plantation Course is used. The Seaside Course had a total par of 70, while the Plantation Course had a total par of 72.

It was a very tight tournament down the stretch with nine golfers within three strokes of McNealy. Americans Daniel Berger and amateur Luke Clanton and Colombian Nico Echavarria were tied for second place at -15. Americans Lee Hodges and J.T. Poston, along with Canadian Mackenzie Hughes were tied for fifth place at -14. Americans Vince Whaley, Patrick Fishburn and Michael Thorbjornsen were tied for eighth place at -13.

This was the final event on the PGA Tour schedule for 2024. The PGA Tour will resume in January with the Sentry from Maui, one of golf’s signature events.

There are three unofficial events in December. They are the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas, and two events in Florida–the Grant Thornton Invitational and the PNC Championship. Tiger Woods has won the Hero World Challenge a record five times, but will not be competing this year because of recent back surgery.
