Matthieu Pavon wins 2024 Farmers Insurance Open

Matthieu Pavon of Toulouse, France won the 2024 Farmers Insurance Open in San Diego, California. The 31-year-old Frenchman is competing on the PGA Tour for the first time this season as he earned his PGA Tour membership by finishing in 15th place on the European Tour in 2023.
Pavon posted a four round score of -13. Seven other golfers were in contention. Nicolai Hojgaard of Denmark finished in second place with a -12. Germany’s Stephan Jaeger, and Americans Nate Lashley and Jake Knapp tied for third place at -11. Meanwhile, South Korea’s Kevin Yu, and Americans Beau Hossler and Tony Finau tied for sixth place at -10.
During the four rounds at the Farmers Insurance Open, Pavon had a first round score of three-under-par 69, a second round score of seven-under-par 65, a third round score of par, and a fourth round score of three-under-par 69. The tournament ended on Saturday because of the AFC and NFC Championships were taking place on Sunday.
There has not been a lot of French success in men’s golf over the years. Yes, France hosted the 2018 Ryder Cup, but Europe did not have a single French player on the team when they beat the United States 17.5 to 10.5 in Guyancourt. Meanwhile, the Evian Masters has been a major in women’s golf since 2013, and over the years there have been three French female major winners. Catherine Lacoste won the 1967 United States Women’s Open, Patricia Meunier-Lebouc won the 2003 Kraft Nabisco Championship, and Celine Boutier won the 2023 Evian Masters. However, in men’s golf, you have to go all the way back to 1907 in Royal Liverpool, to find the last recognized PGA Tour champion. At the British Open 117 years ago, Arnold Massy of Biarritz was victorious.
