Marlins trade first baseman Eric Wagaman to the Twins

As we begin 2026, there was a Major League Baseball trade made on Friday between the Miami Marlins and Minnesota Twins. The Marlins have traded first baseman Eric Wagaman of Mission Viejo, California to the Minnesota Twins for lefthanded relief pitching prospect Kade Bragg of Ennis, Texas.

Wagaman became expendable because of the Marlins acquisition of first baseman Christopher Morel of Santiago, Dominican Republic. Miami signed Morel to a one year contract worth $2 million on December 18.

The Twins will be Wagaman’s third Major League Baseball team in three seasons. Wagaman was with the Los Angeles Angels in 2024 and with the Marlins in 2025.

In 2025, Wagaman batted .250 with nine home runs and 53 runs batted in. During 140 games, 476 at bats and 514 plate appearances, Wagaman scored 56 runs and had 119 hits, 28 doubles, three triples, four stolen bases, 180 total bases, five sacrifice flies, an on base percentage of .296, and a slugging percentage of .378.

One area of concern for the Marlins from Wagaman’s performance in 2025 was his lack of power. When you are playing first base and have 514 plate appearances, you are expected to get more than nine home runs.

For two consecutive seasons, McKenna was designated for assignment. He was first designated by the Angels on November 19, 2024, and was then designated by the Marlins on December 29, 2025.

Bragg pitched for three minor league teams in the Twins system in 2025. He was with Fort Myers Mighty Mussels of the Florida State League (A Ball), the Cedar Rapids Kernels of the Midwest League (A+), and the Wichita Wind Surge of the Texas League (AA).
