MAHER BLASTS THE GONG

THE long and powerful reach of the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace stables was seen on Saturday when they took out the main race in the two biggest states with Detonator Jack winning The Gong at Kembla Grange and Charterhouse the Cranbourne Cup.
Maher said they were able to prepare Detonator Jack from their new stables at Bong Bong which was a big help to them.
Maher placed blinkers on Detonator Jack and said that made a difference after he had been placed in the Five Diamonds and the Five Diamonds Prelude.
“He just hit that little flat spot last start and when we were coming back in trip, we thought it might have been the ideal time to put them on,” Maher said.

“He has always threatened to win a big one this horse, and he’s been very close his last couple and has had a fantastic prep.”
Maher said Jason Collett travelled sweetly and he delivered a beautiful ride.
Maher said the Ballarat Cup (2000m) on December 9 was a logical option for Detonator Jack as he was owned locally but he would also look at the $2m The Ingham (1600m) at Randwick on the same day.
