Maher And Eustace Conquer Again

IT’S going to be three Melbourne Trainer’s Premierships in a row for the all-conquering Ciaron Maher and David Eustace and it’s a sequence that is unlikely to stop in the years to come.

With two meetings left they are on 96 winners for the season, which is eight short of their total last year but don’t be surprised if they finish with a whirlwind.

It’s not just in Melbourne they are having an impact. They will win their first Australian trainer’s premiership where they have ended Chris Waller’s long reign in that championship with 340 winners going into the last week of the season.

With a greater presence in Sydney they have lifted their Sydney haul of winners from 18 to 42 for this season to finish fourth behind Waller who has made it 13 championships in a row.

Waller was also the leading Group 1 trainer with 12 winners and held off James Cummings and Maher and Eustace with 11.

Back to Melbourne and the effort of Peter Moody to finish second with 57 city winners was a noteworthy one.

Moody only returned to the trainer’s ranks three seasons ago and last season he trained 28 winners.

The Hayes boys, who are also re-establishing themselves, also took their tally from 32 to 44 to finish third as they continue their rise in the ranks.
