Luke List wins 2023 Sanderson Farms Championship

In one of the most fascinating golf tournaments of the 2023 season, Luke List of Seattle, Washington won a playoff involving five golfers to win the 2023 Sanderson Farms Championship in Jackson, Mississippi on Sunday. List posted a four round score of -18 and beat fellow Americans Ben Griffin of Chapel Hill, California, and Scott Stallings of Worcester, Massachusetts, along with Swedes Ludvig Aberg and Henrik Norlander. It has been quite the last couple of weeks for Aberg, as just over a week ago he won the Ryder Cup for Team Europe in Rome, Italy.
List won on the first hole in the playoff in Mississippi. He posted a score of birdie on the par four 18th hole. Griffin, Stallings, Aberg and Norlander all had scores of par. The playoff occurred when Griffin bogeyed the 72nd hole.
Seven other golfers were in contention. Mark Hubbard of Denver, Colorado, Carl Yuan of China and Christiaan Bezuidenhout of South Africa tied for sixth place with a score of -17. Reigning Olympic bronze medalist C.T. Pan of Taiwan, along with Americans Cameron Champ of Sacramento, California and Troy Merritt of Osage, Iowa finished tied for ninth place at -16. China’s Zecheng Dou finished alone in 12th place at -15.
In the 72 holes of golf prior to the playoff, List had a first and second round score of six-under-par 66. That was followed by a score of four-under-par 68 in the third round and a score of two-under-par 70 in the fourth round. One could argue List’s most impressive round on the weekend came in the third round because he did not register a bogey.
This was List’s second PGA victory in his career. He previously beat Will Zalatoris of San Francisco, California to win the 2022 Farmers Insurance Open.
