Luka Doncic records NBA record sixth straight 30-point triple-double

According to the Associated Press on Saturday, Dallas Mavericks guard Luka Doncic of Ljubljana, Slovenia made National Basketball Association history on Saturday. He became the first player ever to record six straight 30+ point triple-doubles. Doncic accomplished the feat in a 142-124 win over the Detroit Pistons as he had 39 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists.
Doncic began the streak on February 28 in a 136-125 Mavericks win over the Toronto Raptors. Doncic had 30 points, 16 assists and 12 rebounds. He then had 37 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists in a 138-110 Mavericks loss to the Boston Celtics on March 1; 38 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists in a 120-116 Mavericks loss to the Philadelphia 76ers on March 3; 39 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds in a 137-120 Mavericks loss to the Indiana Pacers on March 5; and 35 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists in a 114-108 Mavericks win over the Miami Heat on March 7. It should be noted that the Doncic six-game 30+ triple double streak has led to only mediocre Mavericks success as they are only 3-3 in that time.
Russell Westbrook of Long Beach, California had the old record with five straight 30+ triple doubles. He holds the NBA record for most triple-doubles all-time with 198. Doncic is ninth all-time with 72.
In 2023-24, Doncic leads the NBA with 34.7 points per game. He also has 9.8 assists per game, nine rebounds per game, and 1.2 steals per game. Doncic has a field goal percentage of .497, three-point percentage of .380, and free throw percentage of .789.
The Mavericks are currently in eighth place in the NBA’s Western Conference. They have a record of 36 wins and 28 losses. Doncic will go for seven straight 30+ triple-doubles on Monday as the Mavericks face the Chicago Bulls.
