Ludvig Aberg wins 2025 Genesis Open

Ludvig Aberg of Eslov, Sweden has won the 2025 Genesis Invitational from Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego, California, He posted a four round score of -12 to beat American Maverick McNealy of Portola Valley, California by one stroke. Two other golfers were in contention. Patrick Rodgers of Avon, Indiana, and two-time Masters champion Scottie Scheffler of Ridgewood, New Jersey, who was victorious in 2022 and 2024, both posted scores of -9 and were three strokes back.

It was a strong bounce back tournament for Aberg as he struggled mightily in round one with a score of two-over-par 74. He had four bogeys and two birdies. However, Aberg bounced back very nicely in round two with a score of six-under-par 66. On Friday, Aberg’s round was highlighted by an eagle on the 18th hole to move from -4 to -6.

In round three on Saturday, Aberg shot a score of two-under par 70. The shot of the round, and the tournament, came on the third hole when the Swede hit a hole in one. Aberg’s tee shot went 140 yards and rolled right into the cup. This is the second time in 2025 a PGA winner for the weekend had a hole in one. Aberg followed Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland, who accomplished the feat at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

Then in the fourth round on Sunday, Aberg had a great back nine as he had four birdies in the last six holes. This was Aberg’s second PGA title. He initially won the 2023 RSM Classic. The 2025 Genesis Invitiational was initially to take place at Riviera in Los Angeles, but got moved to Torrey Pines in San Diego because of the California wildfires.
