Lionel Messi will miss the next three weeks including El Clasico after being ruled out with a fractured arm as Barcelona beat Sevilla 4-2 to go top of La Liga.

Messi was injured when he fell awkwardly in the first half of Saturday’s 4-2 win over Sevilla, and the Argentinian now faces three weeks out.

He was still in obvious discomfort as he left the field in the 26th minute.

Just moments earlier the Barcelona superstar had scored an impressive goal to put Barcelona 2-0 up.

Messi had also set up Philippe Coutinho for the opener on two minutes.

Barcelona stated via Twitter: “Tests carried out on the first team player Leo Messi have confirmed that he has a fracture of the radial bone in his right arm. He will be out for approximately three weeks. FuerzaLeo.”

Barcelona ended a four-match winless run in La Liga by beating their title rivals Sevilla to reclaim top spot. They now lead La Liga with 18 points, one clear of Alavés, who won 1-0 at Celta Vigo on Friday, and two ahead of third-placed Sevilla. Atletico Madrid are fourth after they drew 1-1 at Villarreal, while Real Madrid are back in fifth with their problems deepening after a 2-1 defeat at home to Levante.

Watch how Messi was injured in the video below.
