Moonee Valley Review: Leading Trainers Set For Promising Spring
4 years ago - Sportingbase
The Ciaron Maher and David Eustace stable dominated The Valley meeting with a quartet of winners in an ominous display of their strength on the cusp of the spring powerful.
As is their wont they came in a variety of races from the sprint distances to the longer races.
They took out the feature sprint the Listed Carlyon Stakes (1000 metres) with the consistent mare Bella Nipotina.
They also saluted in the second feature race the McKenzie Stakes (1200 metres) for three-year-old colts and geldings with Fast Witness.

Then their imported gallopers for Australian Bloodstock, Mayfair Spirit and Mankayan, took out the 1600 metres and 2040 metres respectively later in the day on the heavy track.
Bella Nipotina will be set for the Group One sprint feature double at The Valley of the Moir Stakes and the Manikato Stakes.
Consistent stayer Mankayan will be aimed at the Caulfield Cup.

Encouraging return to racing from this talented three-year-old. He was slow out and was never in contention but the son of Dundeel finished off in nice style. The longer the better for him and he’ll be a threat in feature three-year-old races.

GLOBAL GIFT
Gavin Beddgood has got this guy racing in great fashion. He was expected to be part of the battle for the lead but was slow to begin and ended up in third last placing. Stewards noted he over-raced at the 1000 metres and had to be restrained off the heels of Mayfair Spirit. He worked home nicely out wide to finish second.
EXTREMELY LUCKY
He didn’t lose any fans with his effort. He was taking on a heavy track and the tight circuit at Moonee Valley for the first time. Wait for him down the Flemington straight.
