Kyoung-hoon Lee is entering the 2021 PGA Championship as a winner on the PGA Tour. On Sunday, Lee won the AT&T Byron Nelson event in Dallas, Texas.

Lee shot a four-round score of -25 to beat Sam Burns of the United States by three strokes. Lee posted back-to-back scores of seven-under-par 65 in the first two rounds, before scores of five-under-par 67, and six-under-par 66. The only other player to be within three strokes of Lee, was American Sam Burns, who won earlier this month at the Valspar Championship in Florida.

Like Burns, Lee was a first-time winner on the PGA Tour. The only other first-time winner in 2021 was Joel Dahmen of the United States, who won the Corales Puntacana Resort and Club Championship in the Dominican Republic this past March.

Lee is also the second South Korean to win on the PGA Tour in 2021. Si-woo Kim won the American Express Championship in Palm Desert, California this past February. On the LPGA Tour, two South Koreans have been victorious. Inbee Park won the Kia Classic in March in Carlsbad, California, while Hyo-joo Kim won the HSBC Women’s World Championship earlier this month from Singapore.

This is the first of two annual PGA events in the Dallas-Fort Worth region. A week after the PGA Championship, Dallas hosts the Charles Schwab Challenge.

Lee is also the second South Korean to win the AT&T Byron Nelson event. In 2013, Sang-moon Bae beat American Keegan Bradley by two strokes. Bradley is best known for winning the 2011 PGA Championship.

Speaking of the PGA Championship, that will start Thursday from Kiawah Island, South Carolina. Of the 102 PGA Championships in the past, one South Korean was victorious. That was Y.E. Yang, who beat Tiger Woods in 2009 in Minnesota. By winning the AT&T Byron Nelson, Lee qualified for the 2021 PGA Championship. He will be joined by fellow South Koreans Yang, Kim, Sungjae Im, and Byeong Hun An.
