Sometimes golf courses suit a golfer extremely well. That is clearly the case for South Korea’s Kyoung-hoon Lee when it comes to TPC Craig Ranch in Dallas, Texas.

On Sunday, Lee won the Byron Nelson Classic at TPC Craig Ranch for the second straight year. He shot a four round score of -26, including a fourth round score of nine-under-par. Lee’s favourite hole on the weekend was clearly the par-five 12th. It was there he not only had an eagle in the first round, but the fourth round too.

Lee defeated three-time major champion Jordan Spieth of the United States by one stroke. Spieth previously won the 2015 Masters, 2015 U.S. Open, and 2017 British Open. Other golfers who were in contention this past weekend at the Byron Nelson were Sebastian Munoz of Colombia (-24), 2021 Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama of Japan (-24), reigning Olympic gold medalist Xander Schauffele of the United States (-23), 2017 PGA Championship winner Justin Thomas of Louisville, Kentucky (-23), and Ryan Palmer of Amarillo, Texas (-23).

When Lee won the 2021 Byron Nelson Classic, he shot a four-round score of -25 to beat Sam Burns of the United States by three strokes. That means over the last two years at TPC Craig Ranch, Lee has shot a 144-hole score of -51.

Now the world’s best golfers will focus on the PGA Championship, which starts Thursday from the Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The biggest news at the moment is not who will be there, but who won’t be. The field will not have Phil Mickelson, who will not be defending his title from a year ago.
