According to Rogers Sportsnet on Thursday, New York Knicks power forward Julius Randle of Dallas, Texas will be out for a minimum of two weeks with a sprained ankle. The key word in the previous sentence however is “minimum” because right now there is no guarantee that Randle will be ready for the 2023 NBA Playoffs. Right now the Knicks are fifth in the Eastern Conference with a record of 44 wins and 33 losses.

The injury happened in the Knicks’s 101-92 win over the Miami Heat at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday. Randle came down awkwardly in the second quarter while getting the offensive rebound after a miss by point guard Immanuel Quickley. It was one of five rebounds Randle had in the contest.

Randle, who goes by the nickname Orange Julius, is averaging a double double this season. He has 25.1 points per game and exactly 10 rebounds per game. Randle is also averaging 4.1 assists per game, with a field goal percentage of .459, a three-point percentage of .343 and a free throw percentage of .757.

With the loss of Randle, the Knicks will rely more on first year Knick Jalen Brunson of New Brunswick, New Jersey and Canadian RJ Barrett of Toronto, Ontario offensively. Brunson is averaging 23.6 points per game, and  Barrett is averaging 19.6 points per game. However, it should be pointed out that in the Knicks win over the Heat, it was Quickley of Havre de Grace, Maryland off the bench that led the Knicks in scoring with 24 points, while shooting guard Quentin Grimes of Houston. Texas was close behind with 23 points.
