Kings trade De’Aaron Fox to the Spurs

For the second straight day in the National Basketball Association, we saw a blockbuster deal. Sunday’s deal did not have the magnitude of the stunning Luka Doncic/Anthony Davis deal, but you could make the argument it was the second biggest trade of the NBA season.
Like the Saturday deal, there were three teams involved and two principal players. The Sacramento Kings traded point guard De’Aaron Fox of New Orleans, Louisiana to the San Antonio Spurs. The Chicago Bulls traded small forward Zach LaVine of Renton, Washington to the Kings. Meanwhile, point guard Jordan McLaughlin of Etiwanda, California went from Sacramento to San Antonio, small forward Sidy Cissoko of Saint-Maurice, France went from San Antonio to Sacramento, center Zach Collins of Las Vegas, Nevada went from San Antonio to Chicago, point guard Tre Jones of Apple Valley, Minnesota went from San Antonio to Chicago, and shooting guard Kevin Huerter of Albany, New York went from Sacramento to Chicago.
Like may NBA trades these days, draft picks were involved. The Kings are receiving three first round picks (2025, 2027 and 2031). The Kings are receiving three second round picks, and the Bulls are receiving a first round pick in 2025.
Fox, who was an All-Star in 2022-23, has played the last eight seasons in Sacramento, and led the NBA last season in steals per game with two in 2023-24. This season, Fox is averaging 25 points per game, 6.1 assists per game, five rebounds per game, and 1.5 steals per game. He has a field goal percentage of .469, three point percentage of .322 and a free throw percentage of .829,
LaVine is joining his third NBA team. He spent three seasons with the Minnesota Timberwolves from 2014 to 2017, and the last eight seasons with the Bulls, where he was an All-Star in 2020-21 and 2021-22. This season, LaVine averaged 24 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.5 assists, with a field goal percentage of .511, three point percentage of .446, and a free throw percentage of .797.
